The good news: (a) his checkbook wasn't in the bag after all, and (b) we actually have another Macbook here so he won't have to buy a whole new laptop, just upgrade the memory and whatnot.
Actually, he didn't lose his iPod, since it's wired into the bike. Phew! The passport bites, but it's fixable. And the laptop really sucks, but he'd backed up reasonably recently, so it could have been worse.

Ouch - that so sucks! Glad to hear about the checkbook and the laptop, but replacing the passport and ipod will bite.
