Win free books!

Take a wander over to Lust Bites today if you're so inclined and check out our latest contest. If you write a measly 100-word flash fiction story, you'll be in line for prizes!
100 words. C'mon. How hard can that be? I know you can do it. And I'd be so darned proud if one of my friends won...!  :-)

Arf?

“Soulsearching” has made it through both the first and second rounds at ASIM. On the other hand, I got a rejection from Apex Digest for “The Rising.” I’m running out of markets for this one—it’s a 10K magic-realism-type story, and I’m exhausting the places that will consider stories that long…

Had a good massage tonight; she also worked on my ankle, as well as my left calf, which chose to wake me early this morning by cramping into an agonizing charley horse. It’s still tight, and we’re about to go sit in the hot tub, after which I should probably ice my ankle….

I went to the main Oxnard Post Office, but they don’t have IRCs either. They stared at me without any sense of helpfulness or caring. I can accept a smaller branch PO not carrying the IRCs, but not the main PO. And nobody seems to be able to tell me where I can get them—not the main PO, not USPS.com. In fact, USPS.com says their policy is that only offices that “need” them will carry them. Um, it’s the customers that need them. And I am not, alas, psychic enough to know which offices might “need” and thus carry them.

We did manage to pick up our sewing machine and serger today, which means the sewing room is almost ready to be used as a sewing room. Just a few more things to clear out or sort out.

Right. I’m out of here until Sunday (probably Monday by the time I post something). Don’t let the party get too out of hand, okay? And replace any booze you drink. And…waitaminute. Why wasn’t I invited to the party?!

(Back for a sec, to say that I just heard a sound outside that sounded like a sea lion. No, I haven’t been drinking. WTF?)

Check...check...check...

Yoish, busy and productive day!

  • The chiropractor adjusted my ankle. I was honestly terrified, expecting it to feel like when I sprained it, but it didn’t hurt at all. Afterwards, my ankle was so much looser! Alas, I did take a walk today (to the Post Office and library) and now it’s stiffened up again. Still definitely better, though.
  • I edited a story I finished last night (the evil story for the upcoming Denise Little workshop that had me so stressed I was nauseous!) and mailed it off. It’s…well, there’s a lot about it that I really like. There’s a lot I think might be weak. Bottom line is that I got it in on time, and let’s face it, we never really have a true sense of how good or bad our own work is, do we? Thanks to Sabrina for letting me babble about it yesterday at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and to Chris and Phaedra, who talked me down from the ledge last week, and to Ken for his expert and thorough proofreading.
  • I mailed all the proposals for Out of the Frying Pan except one, because my local Post Office no longer has International Reply Coupons, so I guess I have to go to the next-closest one tomorrow. Grr. They’re raising the rates again and yet their services are getting cut.
  • I mailed “Love Makes the Universe Go ‘Round” to Asimov’s.
  • I went through the publisher edits for “Some Old Lover’s Ghost,” edited the story, and sent it back.
  • I did some work on my new and improved website, hopefully to be unveiled by the end of the month.
  • Almost completely cleaned out my e-mail In Box—down to one e-mail!
  • I’ve started packing for our 5 days away. Say it with me again: Four Styx shows! And a LARA meeting and a writing-at-Lulu’s fest! And hanging out with lots of different friends!
