Thursday 13: Thirteen Things I’m Happy About

I’ve been a bit down in the dumps recently, what with my husband being out of town and me spraining my ankle and being most housebound for a week. So, dammit, it’s time to focus on the positive!

  1. Ken will be home in about an hour! Hurrah!

  2. The sprain could have been much, much worse.

  3. Although I’ve been uninspired for a few days, I wrote last night and plan to eke out a few words tonight. Face forward!

  4. Friends from Portland are visiting friends down the street for a week, and we’re all having tea on Saturday and I’ll probably get to hang out with them at other times.

  5. The library. :-)

  6. My recent book signing, which went very well.

  7. My upcoming group talk at a library with other LARA members next month.

  8. My massage therapist. She’s incredible, plus we spend the two hours laughing every week.

  9. The rain. Gods know we need it. Plus, there was some incredible booming thunder last night!

  10. Brian, for fixing the TV/VCR/DVD/DVR setup so I could watch TV again.

  11. Afalwen, my laptop, so I can work even when my ankle is elevated.

  12. The cats. Purring madly and keeping me company. I’ve even forgiven Eostre for stepping on my injured ankle in the middle of the night last night!

  13. Candles. Pretty, pretty candles…

That's all she wrote

Rejection from Ideomancer for “Soulsearching.”

That’s all. Move along, nothing else to see here.

Pillow Talk Tuesday

Oh. I'm so embarrassed. I was interviewed by Michelle Pillow for one of her Pillow Talk Tuesday sessions, and I completely forgot when it was going live. I did the interview last October, and although she did tell me when it would run, I didn't write it down anywhere that I'd apparently see it.

::hangs head in shame::

Please do follow the link and say hi, though! I'll check back in over the next day or two and respond!

(I was up on January 8, so you'll have to scroll down a bit...)

But where's the story?

For some reason, the wireless connection is being flaky, which means it’s being very hard to research my short story. (Found some very, very squee-cool tidbits, but still I have no story. Argh.)

I ventured out today, driving gingerly to the chiropractor’s and thence to the grocery store for milk. I think I sat at the desk too long yesterday, so I’m back to elevating my ankle and icing it today. Sigh. It’s very weird. I took a bath yesterday (thought it was time to start with the moist heat, y’know?) and while it felt scrummy in the bath, afterwards my foot felt…liquid-filled. When I walked, it felt like the top of my foot was wobbling a tiny bit. It still feels that way today, if I sit for too long with my feet on the floor. Argh, I say. Argh.

I did try Alia’s suggestion of using the laptop to watch DVDs, and had a Monarch of the Glen ep to keep me company during lunch. It’s interesting how much more I hear wearing headphones. The picture is still smallish, but I can get by. Of course, one DVD is headed back to Netflix today (er, tomorrow—no mail today, is there? I’m groggy, since I was woken this morning by very loud drumming and “We Shall Overcome,” presumably from the park two blocks away. Thank the gods there wasn’t a parade. It was 8:30 a.m. and I kept thinking about how a parade on 5th Street was going to completely fcuk up anybody trying to get to work…) and this one has only three eps on it, so I’ll be immediately bereft again.* I’ve left a message for Morgana and Brian to see if Brian could possibly come and rewire the TV system…

<>-<>-<>

Brian is The Hero of the Revolution! I have TV again. I have, theoretically (I haven’t phutzed with it) DVD. The TV is a little weirdly fuzzy, but I can live with that. I have my Ghost Hunters International, and I’m happy.

Oh, this is weird. I recorded a Hallmark Channel movie, The Good Witch, because it sounded vaguely amusing and because Catherine Bell is kinda hot. Oh, let’s be honest. I’m just watching it for the architecture of that gorgeous house… This is what I have become.

*Yes. I do know I have a fair amount of DVDs in the media room closet. Your point? :-S

Ohfercryinoutloud

Our “new” (less than 5 years old) multiregion VCR suddenly has no power. The TV is routed through this VCR. Which means w/out power, I can’t tune the VCR to the right channel, which means I have no TV.

Let’s recap:

Ken is away.

I have a sprained ankle and can’t easily go anywhere/visit anyone (e.g., no LARA meeting and no party at Gillian's today, woe is me).

I have no TV.

Now, I don’t watch all that much TV, but I was looking forward to watching the final season of Monarch of the Glen while Ken was gone, and it’s nice to have the opportunity to just veg in front of the box once in a while during a long day of being sadly alone.

Thankfully, I have a metric ton of books in my TBR bookcase, and I’m already hammering through them (I read the entirety of Natasha Mostert’s The Midnight Side today, which for some reason makes the chorus of Motley Crüe’s “The Wild Side” get stuck in my head), but when I have a headache (which I did yesterday and which I’m suddenly having again now at 10:30 p.m.), reading can be painful.

Yargh.

<>-<>-<>

I did some research for my Denise Little Workshop story today, but I have an idea, but no story (i.e., no character, no plot). And the myth/legend I’ve chosen doesn’t entirely make sense. I’m going to instruct my subconscious to work on it while I’m asleep tonight.

<>-<>-<>

Okay, this is entirely freaking me out. Two small planes collided over a Los Angeles suburb today. Two planes ran into each other. Dudes, you’ve got the entire freakin’ sky to maneuver in. You’ve got vertical as well as horizontal. How could you not avoid each other? Really, I’m not trying to make light of the fact that people died, because that’s truly awful. I just cannot wrap my brain around how it could have happened.

<>-<>-<>

My ankle is being puffy and annoying, so I’m off to bed to elevate it….
