Did you miss me?

Home, and officially swamped, with a short story due now and four contracts to review, print, sign, and mail.

The mail also brought comp copies of
  • Bedding Down, containing the Sophie Mouette wintery novella “Hidden Treasure."
  • Never Have the Same Sex Twice, a combo fiction and how-to book edited by Alison Tyler, which contains an excerpt of my story “Breakfast in Bed” as well as something I posted in a comment on Lust Bites about music. (Amazingly enough, I didn’t even mention Styx!)
Mmm, comp copy goodness!

More soon, as I pull my life back together!

How have you all been?

This month is Busy Busy Busy for me too - so many anthologies have a deadline of End of December for some reason.

What anthologies are you working towards? I think I have only two by the end of the month (although, now that I think of it, I may have gotten a couple of stories in early).

But I also have a novel to finish and put together a proposal for, as well as a proposal for another novel!

Arrrrggghhh - don't ask. And I don't even have deadlines or editors yet.

Hope Vegas was fun babes.

The trick is to make your own deadlines. You are, after all, your own boss in this business. The novel and the proposals? Nobody's waiting for them. They're my goals.

And the short story deadlines are anthology calls for submissions. Same thing: If I don't send a story, it's no skin off the editor's back; s/he'll get more than s/he can use. But if I want a shot at being in the anthology, I have to write a decent story and get it submitted in time.

(I should note here that it's been years since I've written a story that wasn't for a specific call. Which is really sad...)

Hey Dayle,

It's great to see we're in more anthologies together--Same Sex, Do Not Disturb, Frenzy.... I do love your work--and I was just thinking of "The Queen of Christmas" the other day as I was gearing up for my own Christmas cookie madness. Your story always brings a smile to my face and has in fact become part of my holiday lore, like reading A Christmas Carol!

Donna, you just gave me one of the best holiday presents ever! :-)

Here's to many more "joint" anthologies!
